Specialist neurological rehab centre and stylish accessible gym for people with spinal cord injuries, Parkinson’s, and MS

Project brief.
VIM Health in Mid Sussex, is a specialist neurological rehab centre, with an accessible gym onsite. It provides quality neuro rehabilitation and healthcare to people who have experienced:
- Stroke
- Brain injuries
- Spinal cord injuries
As well as those living with:
- Parkinson’s
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Other neurological conditions
It also treats individuals with sports injuries, neck, and back pain and those recovering from surgeries, such as hip and knee replacements.
In line with its central ethos of inclusivity, accessibility and independence, VIM Health appointed Motionspot to help it create toilet and changing facilities that are designed to be welcoming, calming, and wellbeing focussed while also being supportive and safe.
“Our vision for VIM Health was to create an attractive, accessible therapy centre in a non-clinical setting. We paid close attention to the design of the interior, and we knew that toilet and changing facilities which foster independence would be vital. Motionspot was the perfect partner to help us realise this, because they focus on both function and form. The resulting spaces integrate with our design-led rehab centre and are functional without reminding our clients of their time in hospital."

Project scope .
Motionspot designed, and specified and supplied products for three communal spaces at VIM Health:
- The accessible toilet
- An accessible changing room with basin
- A standard unisex toilet
A member of Motionspot’s design team visited the space in Mid Sussex to measure up. The three communal spaces were then designed. Once designs were approved, product specification and supply were then initiated.
Key design-led accessible products used include:
- Luminous Lume tiles in Turquoise Gloss (speak to a member of the Motionspot team to find out more)
- Motionspot’s Doc M Spot Push Button Call Alarm Pack
- A slimline hand rinse basin in the standard toilet and large surface mounted basins in the accessible toilet and changing room
- Chrome wall mounted and hinged grab rails
- Wall mounted mixer taps
- Close coupled toilets
- Coordinating accessories including toilet roll holder, toilet brush and robe hooks
