Project background.
Ade is a Paralympian and TV presenter, and Linda is singer and songwriter Elle Exxe. Since the couple bought their house, they had been dreaming of turning it into a home where access was beautifully woven throughout, rather than a clunky add-on. Ade and Linda engaged Motionspot to help design their master en-suite and family bathroom. They wanted to create a space that would work for both Ade, who uses a wheelchair, and Linda who does not.
‘We became quite passionate about proving that accessibility can and should be aesthetically desirable, and that there’s definitely no need for it to look like a hospital’.

‘I knew immediately we [Motionspot & the Adepitan’s] were on the same page and wanted to see what we could do together.’

Project scope.
We worked closely with the Linda and Ade to bring their vision to life and create a truly stunning accessible space. The couple came to the Motionspot studio to discuss the project and sample products. From there an exceptional design took shape, full of highly bespoke finishes.

Key features.
Double basins were integrated at different heights on a floating countertop. Ade’s was slightly sunken to make it easier to reach from a wheelchair, whilst Linda’s was positioned slightly above the surface so she wouldn’t have to bend so far when standing. The space below gave Ade room to pull his wheelchair underneath. It also created a beautiful sense of openness in what could otherwise have felt like a small, enclosed room.
We built in a number of clever storage solutions to replace traditional under-counter storage. A tall concealed cupboard was designed into one end of the countertop within easy reach and opened with the lightest touch. A number of alcoves were also recessed into the walls at key points to create extra hanging storage at levels suitable for both.
Other subtle details.
- A sleek drop-down rail was fitted beside the wall-mounted toilet that folds neatly away when not in use.
- A cleverly positioned alcove in the wall on the other side of the toilet was designed at the perfect height for Ade to lean on, creating a hidden handrail.
- In the shower area a simple fold-up shower seat and support rail were seamlessly built in.
- Both an overhead and detachable shower with a long hose and easy-to-use shower controls were included to allow different options for washing.
We arranged for everything from the towel rail to the support rails to be sprayed to their exact colour specification - a beautiful muted copper tone. The gorgeous soft rose colour draws everything together and creates a wonderfully warm and calming effect.
The overall result is truly stunning and couldn’t be further from what people think of as a typical accessible bathroom.
‘It’s just so amazing to live somewhere that meets both our needs in such a subtle way”.
