Prince Consort House, Campus Living.

Specialist accessible adaptations for a disabled student.

Project brief.

Campus Living are a student accommodation provider offering vibrant student communities across 20 locations in the UK. Accessible apartments form part of Campus Living’s accommodation mix, but they required assistance with additional specialist adaptations for a disabled student staying at Prince Consort Village in London. Campus Living engaged Motionspot to consult on the personalisation and to supply the necessary accessible products.

Project scope.

We conducted a site visit to understand the specific access needs of the student, assess the accommodation, and identify the modifications required. Our approach considered the student’s journey to and from communal facilities rather than simply their apartment in isolation. This included review of entrances, doors, bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, and living spaces.

Working closely with the student and Campus Living’s building team, we provided recommendations and designs specific to the student, and specified and supplied all necessary products.

Modifications included setting the kitchen counters at a more appropriate height, bringing cupboards, shelving, and power sockets within reach, and making the en-suite more suitable for use with a shower chair.

Five automatic doors were also installed between the student’s room to communal areas. These were integrated with the Village’s key fob system to ensure security and ease of use for all students.
