BP
Project Brief
Motionspot was appointed by bp, the British multinational energy company, to embed inclusive design across its Global Workplace Transformation Programme.
Our role supported bp’s sustainability aims (including Net Zero advocacy, diversity, equity, and employee wellbeing) by creating workplaces that are safe, intuitive, and dignified for all staff and visitors, regardless of physical, sensory, cognitive, or cultural needs.
Project Scope
Motionspot delivered a bespoke Inclusive Design Standard and Guide, informed by global employee engagement and applied across bp’s office estate.
Global Employee Engagement:
- Facilitated focus groups with bp’s Business Resource Groups across US, UKEMEA, and ASPAC, capturing lived experiences from neurodivergent, disabled, older, and culturally diverse employees in roles spanning leadership, science, HR, and facilities.
Inclusive Design Standard & Guide:
- Developed a visually inspiring Inclusive Design chapter within bp’s Global Workplace Design Guide, covering lighting, wayfinding, biophilia, amenities, facilities, and community spaces, with recommendations exceeding local regulations.
Training and Inclusive Design Guardian:
- Rolled out the Standard across existing offices and new builds from London to Tokyo, with ongoing monitoring of impact and iterative updates.
- Provided training and acted as Inclusive Design Guardian to bp’s Workplace Design Team, ensuring sustained application and awareness.
Project Impact
Motionspot’s Standard has equipped bp with a practical, employee-informed framework that transforms workplaces into inclusive, high-performing environments. By integrating neurodivergent, cultural, and wellbeing-focused design from the start, bp now fosters greater talent retention, collaboration, and innovation. The rollout across regions has reduced barriers, enhanced social cohesion, and aligned built environments with bp’s diversity and Net Zero goals, setting a powerful precedent for sustainable, equitable corporate design.
