Project Brief

Motionspot was appointed as the Inclusive Design Lead for ATG Entertainment (formerly Ambassador Theatre Group), a global live entertainment leader, to review the new 1,800-seat Theater am Prater in Vienna and develop an organisation-wide Inclusive Design Strategy.

Our role spanned the RIBA Stages 2–4 equivalents on the Vienna. Across all workstreams, we embedded accessibility, sensory design, and equity to support theatregoers, staff, and performers with diverse needs, including neurodivergence, mobility impairments, and invisible disabilities.

Project Scope

Motionspot delivered inclusive design reviews, stakeholder engagement, and a strategic framework to position ATG as a pioneer in inclusive theatre design.

Inclusive Design Review:

  • Conducted detailed Stage 2–3 reviews of drawings, renders, and specifications, focusing on circulation, sensory experience, toilet facilities (including Changing Places), wayfinding, ticketing, F&B, and staff areas.
  • Provided observations, recommendations, and an updated inclusive design tracker, with findings actioned by architects Haworth Tompkins and local partners DTFLR.

Inclusive Design Strategy Development:

  • Facilitated internal workshops with staff from multiple venues to capture real-world challenges and opportunities in navigation, sensory comfort, movement, and inclusive amenities.
  • Authored ATG’s Inclusive Design Vision and Commitments, aligned with the IDEA Committee’s focus on protected characteristics, socioeconomic diversity, and sustainability.

Training & Knowledge Transfer:

  • Delivered an Inclusive Design Overlay (IDO) information session to client and design teams, building capacity for future projects from Stage 0.

Project Impact

Motionspot’s input has reshaped Theater am Prater into one of Vienna’s most accessible theatres in a century while equipping ATG with a practical, future-ready strategy that turns staff insights into actionable change. By integrating sensory-friendly spaces, equitable circulation, and annual review commitments, ATG now leads by example—delivering calmer, safer, more welcoming experiences that boost attendance, staff satisfaction, and artistic inclusion, all while minimising future retrofit costs and environmental impact.
