Allwyn

Project Brief

Motionspot was appointed as the Inclusive Design Consultant for Allwyn UK’s new headquarters at The Clarendon Works in Watford, the future home of the UK National Lottery operator. The project sought to deliver a contemporary, inclusive, and collaborative workplace that reflects Allwyn’s commitment to accessibility and equity for all colleagues and visitors.

Project Scope

Engaged from the early stages, Motionspot worked closely with the client, project management, design, and contractor teams to ensure inclusive design principles were embedded from strategic definition through to handover and in-use. This involvement ensured that the design not only met regulatory requirements but also aligned with Allwyn’s values and DEI ambitions, creating a workplace that is both inspiring and universally accessible.

Throughout the project, Motionspot’s role spanned multiple RIBA stages — supporting early visioning, reviewing design proposals, advising during construction, and verifying inclusivity at completion. Key activities and deliverables included:

  • Stage 1 – Preparation and Briefing: Inclusive Design site visits to existing Allwyn workplaces and the Clarendon Works site to understand the existing challenges and opportunities for improvement; engagement with Allwyn Employee Resource Groups; and development of Inclusive Design Employer’s Requirements setting out the project’s inclusive vision and commitments.
  • Stage 2 – Concept Design: Inclusive design review of architectural concept packs and submission of an End of Stage Report summarising recommendations.
  • Stages 3 & 4 – Spatial Coordination and Technical Design: Design novated to the Design and Build Contractor, with Motionspot providing continuity and advisory input during transition.
  • Stage 5 – Manufacturing and Construction: Inclusive review of contractor proposals, participation in design team meetings, and advisory support during design development and construction.
  • Stage 6 – Handover: Inclusive design site inspections and compliance statement confirming the delivery of agreed inclusive design outcomes to support Practical Completion.
  • Stage 7 – Use: Ongoing engagement to ensure inclusive design features are understood, maintained, and continue to deliver value in operation.

Project Impact

The project has delivered an inclusive headquarters for Allwyn UK at The Clarendon Works, embedding accessibility across all RIBA stages to create a workplace that exceeds regulatory standards for colleagues and visitors. This end-to-end consultancy has resulted in a collaborative, equitable environment that enhances user experience, promotes long-term operational value, and sets a benchmark for inclusive design in corporate settings.
