Designing accessible bedrooms and en-suites can be a challenge. Whilst ensuring that rooms meet building regulations it is often easy to compromise on the design and aesthetics, which leads to the creation of clinical, institutional-looking spaces.
This does not have to be the case. With the application of innovative design solutions, it is possible to create beautiful, accessible rooms that appeal to everyone and are in keeping with the hotel’s overall look.

Market potential
According to VisitEngland research, accessible tourism is a £14.6 billion a year market and guests requiring accessible rooms tend to travel with others, take longer trips, and are loyal to hotels that get it right.
Peter Banks, MD at Rudding Park Hotel, has found this to be true: “Improving accessibility in our hotel has increased revenue by £250,000 per annum and the average length of stay in the accessible room is 2.3 nights versus 1.8 nights in non-accessible rooms”.
Accessible tourism is a £12 billion a year market.
